il y a des avatars "humains" qui sont les internautes inscrits sur le jeu mais aussi des sociétés qui mettent en ligne des avatars issus de recherche en intelligence artificielle: cf le cas impressionnant de Sparky , une des dernières réalisations de Metaverse Technology http://www.metaversetech.com/product/product-AI.htm dans le domaine des "assistants virtuels" (ou encore shatbot). la forme d'un petit robot capable d'entretenir un dialogue ouvert avec un "avatar humain", et peut, au choix, suivre son "maître" dans tous ses déplacements ou bien rester à la place qu'on lui aura assignée. in SL you have the "human avatars" ie the one issued by internet users but also enterprises issuing an another type of avatars out of artificial intelligence researches such as the very powerful Sparky from metaverse (see hereabove link).
Another good one comes from pandorabots applications... try them it's cool.
In France we have a long time player called "As An Angel" dealing with semantic web but with very heavy duty developments... whereas alicebot is amasing of simplicity !
Don't forget to look at the latest MSN Beta msdewey... it can be cool too !
On the corporate gaming through avatars we have in France the big INRS with an outstanding security application for finally coming back to my first avatar story starting in 2002 with the online portal called vivacances !
